Osnabrück | Accomodations | Restaurants | Travel Information

Osnabrück, Germany

Osnabrück is in Northwest Germany, near the Dutch border - if you have a larger European sense of distance. Amsterdam is about 180 km to the west and a little north of Osnabrück. Going directly east for about an hour on the train, you will be in Hanover, and if you keep going on this train, after another two hours you will be in Berlin. On a direct train, you can come from Zurich or Paris in 8 hours. Hamburg is about 2 hours to the north. map of Northwest Germany

Train connections are generally very good and run about each hour. Osnabrück has together with Münster a joint airport with connecting flights to European Airports. Quite often it works just as well when one flies to the large international airports of Amsterdam or Frankfurt, from where you can take a direct train of 3 respective 4,5 hours to Osnabrück.

The city has a beautiful old center with a number of Romanic and Gothic buildings as well as the typical half-timbered houses. It is very proud of a long and lively cultural tradition. The writer Erich Maria Remarque was born here as well as the painter Felix Nussbaum. The city lies between the Teutoburg Forest and Wiehen Hills, in a landscape of low mountains and extensive deciduous forests, which give ample opportunity for excursion and hike.
